Welcome to Mrs. Newland's Class!
A friendly reminder that our field trip to Cox Farms is rapidly approaching! If you have not already done so, please turn in: 1) the signed permission form, 2) the $10.75 admission fee (cash only/exact change), 3) check the lunch statement on the yellow paper, and 4) indicate if you are willing to chaperone the trip (no siblings allowed, please). Chaperones will be chosen in the next day or so, and you will be notified if you have been chosen.
The kinders are having a blast with Secret in a Sack! The clues they are giving are amazing, and the guesses and questions they have afterward are fantastic. Please check the monthly Secret in a Sack calendar to see when your child should share. No worries if they forget, have them bring it in the next day and they will still get a turn.
We are functioning together as a class so well that we have earned our second marble party of the year! The votes are in, and the kinders chose to have popsicles outside on the playground. This will be the perfect week for it, as temps are supposed to be in the 80's.
We have been busy learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin plant in preparation for our upcoming trip. Ask your kinder to tell you about how a pumpkin grows.
Believe it or not, we have learned how to read and write 6 sight words! The words we have learned so far include: a, I, the, see, we, and can. Point those words out in books, or better yet, allow your kinder to be "word detectives" and find those words in books. You should also be practicing these words at home. Put them on "flashcards" and flash them to your kinder, make a double set of cards and use them to play memory, hang a set of the words around the house and have your kinder read them each time they pass by, have your kinder write the words in shaving cream on the side of the bathtub. Use your imagination and get creative! The more FUN you make it for your kinder, the faster they will learn them. These words are SO important to a young reader...when they can read these "sight words" by sight, they are free to focus and concentrate on the more difficult words in the text.
If you have not done so already, please send in a snack that will feed 22 kinders.
As always, thank you for sharing your precious little ones with us!
